Description:Jillian Lewis is a high-end fashion designer based in Long Island City, New York. Her collections draw from a variety of eclectic references to express her artistic perspective of fashion. Her pieces have a sculptural body conscious quality that exhibits strength, softness and femininity all at once. The company is in the process of a product re-launch scheduled to hit retail stores in December 2018. The company also provides costume and fashion design services for various companies in the fashion and theater world.
Jillian Lewis Inc. is currently seeking Fashion and Costume design Interns. This is an exciting time to join the company in building a collection from the ground up while creating hand-made items for costume projects. There is a lot of opportunity to contribute in a big way.
We are a small team of 4-5 people. The ideal candidate will be an integral part of the process. We have an environment where everyone can contribute creatively. This is a great learning opportunity for the right person.
Requirements:• Must be a student in a fashion or costume design program or have some relevant industry experience
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
• Must be self motivated, passionate, artistic and reliable
• Must have design, sewing and construction skills
**We are looking for someone to start immediately.
***This internship can be for college credit.
****We can also provide a modest stipend
Responsibilities:FASHION DESIGN:
• Research concepts and trends as assigned
• Sketching support as needed and depending on skill level
• Help with light pattern making, muslin construction and prepping tech packs for sample makers
• Pick-ups and drop-offs to sample makers, factories, cutters, graders etc.
• Organize work room: binders, invoices, purchase orders and fabric library
COSTUME DESIGN:
• Assist design team with altering purchased garments to match approved design sketch
• Assist design team with building garments from scratch
• Add embellishments to items as needed: applique, beading, distressing, painting, etc
• Hand craft headpieces, accessories and jewelry
• Assist with prepping and packing all items for shipping
