Description:Online fashion retail concept The Folklore (www.thefolklore.us) is looking for two Editorial/Social Media Interns for the Spring 2019 semester (Dec – May). Interns will be responsible for assisting The Folklore team with producing and scheduling all editorial, social media, and marketing content. This internship is unpaid, therefore only college students who are eligible to receive school credit will be considered. This position is also remote (if you live in New York/New Jersey there will be opportunities to assist on set and at our New York events), so applicants must have access to a working computer and internet. Experience with Hootsuite, Slack, Google Drive, graphic design, SEO, and social media business tools is a plus but not required. We are looking for a self-starter who is eager/quick to learn and is comfortable taking initiative and working independently.
The Folklore is an innovative online retail concept operating out of New York City and Cape Town. The Folklore stocks high-end and emerging designers from Africa and the diaspora, and serves as a cultural hub for contemporary brands, artists and creatives to showcase their personal stories. Our carefully curated product-line reflects the diversity of Africa's contemporary urban landscapes and design aesthetic. We deliver apparel, accessories, shoes, bags, and homeware that can live in cities around the world, and be enjoyed by men and women who appreciate luxurious, thoughtful, clean and boundary-pushing design. The Folklore has been featured on Vogue, i-D, Refinery29, L'Officiel and several other notable digital media outlets.
Requirements:- College student eligible to receive school credit
- Knowledge or interest in the African fashion industry and global luxury fashion industry
- Access to personal computer/internet
- Available 2 full days a week
- Strong writing skills
- Advanced social media skills
Responsibilities:- Schedule social media posts across all platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Pinterest)
- Produce clean and engaging copy for social media
- Draft and produce clean copy for blog
- Research and pitch new blog story ideas
- Collaborate with designers, photographers, and other partners on blog posts
- Marketing / social media research
- Site maintenance checks
- Tracking and promoting press mentions
- Facilitating sample trafficking for editorial and press shoots
- Other general administrative tasks
- Occasionally assist on set for editorial and product shoots
- Occasionally assist at seasonal pop-up shops
