I randomly stumbled upon Melody Ehsani on Karmaloop last December, and was immediately taken by her fresh take on jewelry and shoes. It has that perfect amount of streetwear edge that makes me feel like a bad ass, but not look like a wannabe sneaker head. Although her popularity seems to have resulted from her nameplate jewelry, she has way more to offer.
I got amped on her latest collection after seeing some pictures she posted on her Twitter account. One image got me particularly excited- it was of a ring with a massive gun on it. Not that I am in any way trying to glamorize, promote or condone violence, but I have always been attracted to jewelry that has imagery of guns, knives, bullets, grenades, etc. It’s actually what prompted my brother to describe my style as “girly violence.”
Her latest collection, Final Frontier, was inspired by “being her true self. Interconnected, intergalactic, inter-related. Oneness, and the belief in looking back to Nature- the source – to reconnect with the Divine Design….remember who you are….and the belief that you can teleport to where you want to be as soon as you close your eyes to see.” After reading her description and seeing her lookbook imagery, I totally sensed the connection between her inspiration and the designs.
